Marton Book Brings Back Memories

David Coxshall from Suffolk used the "Contact" link on this website to request a copy of Richard Lawton's book. He says "My wife Janet, who was Janet Thompson was born in Marton. Her parents were Russell and Doris Thompson who lived there most of their married life. Janet went to School in Marton and Pickering and we were married in Marton Chapel in 1968"

In David's hall in Suffolk, is a painting of the Aspens in Marton, painted by George Herbert Cook, who lived opposite.

David kindly sent an image of the painting which can be seen above.

When David and Janet received their copy of the book they were delighted to find that Janet's mother and father featured in one of the group photographs.

Appletree Closes

The Appletree Inn closed its doors for the final time last night after a farewell party for Mel & TJ. They will be moving to a new business locally soon and their progress can be followed by visiting www.appletreeinn.co.uk

It appears that our pub will re-open under new management shortly; more information as it becomes available.

The pub signs come down for removal of the Appletree design and logo.

And signs in the windows tell the tale.

Marton to Lose Its Pub?

It is sad that the reappearence of this website coincides with the imminent departure of Mel & TJ Drew from our village pub. Having spent the past 8 years hard at work resulting in the Appletree winning many awards including the prestigious National Dining Pub of the Year 2008, they recently issued this press release:
